Square in front of the sculpture of “Ryto”
Public space – the square by the “Ryto” sculpture, is located in the northern part of Lazdynai, between Architektų str. 152, 158 and the surrounding apartment buildings. A former shopping and service centre next to the square “Lazdynai”. Currently The premises include a Maxima store and several cafés. In the centre of the square is the sculpture “Rytas” by sculptor Gediminas Karaliaus, built in 1975, which is included in the Register of Cultural Heritage, as is the residential area of Lazdijai.
This sculpture, called “the horse” by the inhabitants of Lázně, was a popular symbol of Soviet-era Vilnius and one of the most prominent sculptures of the time. It remains an important adornment of Lazdynai today and a regular meeting point for local residents.
One of the most valuable features of the Lazdiny district is its open spaces, formed by loosely planned groups of flats, natural terrain and pine forests. These spaces are well balanced, functionally and visually related to their surroundings, without losing their “human” scale. The site covers approximately 0.7 ha and is important for the Lazdynai community as a place for gatherings and celebrations. The square has a spruce tree, which is decorated by the residents at Christmas, and several maple trees. The site is included in the functional area of intensively used green areas in the General Plan.
