Changes in the capital’s companies: territorial design will be entrusted to Vilnius Development Company

2024-08-30

Organisational changes have been introduced in two companies owned by Vilnius City Municipality to make their operations even more efficient. By the end of the year, Vilnius Development Company, which manages and develops public infrastructure, will take over the spatial planning and design functions from ID Vilnius, while the latter will strengthen its specialisation in providing solutions for digitisation of city data.

“The decision to transfer part of the functions of ID Vilnius to Vilnius Development Company was taken in order to increase the efficiency of both companies and to clarify their functions. Following the planned changes, ID Vilnius will specialise in digital data processing and management. Meanwhile, Vilnius Development Company will concentrate all design and planning functions for the city’s public territories – from the preparation of general detailed plans to the selection of contractors,” comments Adomas Bužinskas, Director of Vilnius City Municipality Administration.

According to the Head of Administration, the separation of the functions of the municipality’s companies will allow for smoother cooperation in the planning, design and implementation of the development of the city’s public territories.

The functions of two divisions of ID Vilnius – design and spatial planning – will be transferred to Vilnius Development Company. More than 50 professionals working in these departments will be offered to continue working for Vilniaus Vystymo Kompaniya under the same conditions.

“For staff in these units, only the name of the workplace changes, not the nature of the work. All spatial planners and their teams will be offered identical responsibilities and remuneration at Vilniaus Developymo, and the final decision will be taken by each of them personally. This redistribution of functions will allow for even more efficient planning, design and development of the capital’s spaces, and a focused team of employees will be able to achieve even better results in increasing the attractiveness of the city for its residents and visitors,” says Laura Joffė, Head of Vilniaus Vystymo Kompānija.

ID Vilnius employees who are to be transferred will be given termination notices and offers to join Vilniaus Vystymo Kompania. According to Mr Joffe, all employees will be consulted and consulted, and the company’s management is ready to answer any questions they may have.

“The ongoing changes will allow ID Vilnius to focus on the main goal set by the shareholder organisation to become the centre of excellence for technology in Vilnius City, managing city data and helping companies belonging to the Vilnius City Municipality to make decisions based on data. At the same time, it will further enable the adaptation of digital solutions to the everyday use of the city’s inhabitants,” says Paulius Samoška, Chairman of the Board of ID Vilnius.

The reorganisation of the companies is expected to be fully implemented by the end of the year.
