3 April The first workshop with residents on the changes to Vėtrungė Square and the pedestrian alley took place in Lazdynai on April 4, 2018. The aim of the meeting was to gather residents’ ideas and expectations for the renovation project of these public spaces, which is being prepared by ID Vilnius UAB, together with Vilnius City Parks, on behalf of Vilnius City Municipality. In order to gather as much diverse information as possible from the residents for further work, we suggested that the participants hold discussions at three thematic tables: 1. The Values Table was designed to find out what the participants cared most about in these spaces, and what qualities of these spaces need to be preserved and enhanced.
2. The Obstacles Table was designed to identify the main problems and challenges of the area, the solutions to which we will be trying to incorporate into the project.
3. The Possibilities Table was designed to capture all of the residents’ visions and ideas on how the square and the promenade could be transformed in future. Thank you to the large number of citizens who attended the meeting for their time, constructive comments and creative suggestions! We have summarised all the ideas expressed during the meeting in this publication. The material gathered at the first meeting will form the basis of the project for the renovation of the square and the promenade. In the three weeks leading up to the second meeting, experts will analyse the information gathered, evaluate the proposals and prepare an initial concept for the square and the space. The concept will consist of short and long term solutions – some of the simple works can be done already this year, but some of the more serious changes will have to wait longer. You are invited to a presentation of the concept on 24 April at 17:30. At the Vilnius Lazdynai School (Žėručio g. 4, room 004, 1st floor). If you have any questions or ideas for the renovation of the alley and square, please contact dalyvavimas@idvilnius.lt.
